About Our Farm

Bay Springs Farm is truly the fulfillment of our retirement dream. My husband and I bought the land for our farm in 1993 with plans to retire to Cape May, NJ someday and raise a herd of alpacas there. In 2001 we left Pennsylvania and built a new home, put up barns, and installed fencing for our small herd. We now have 24 alpacas and a farm store where we sell alpaca products--fleece, yarn, apparel and alpaca novelties.

We are committed to a breeding program with the goals of producing alpacas with fine fleece, diverse colors, and excellent conformation. We spend time with our alpacas on a daily basis to insure that they are easy to handle, safe for children, and fun to be around. This means selecting for good disposition and temperament as well as appearance. We take great pleasure in sharing our knowledge with newbies who are thinking about raising alpacas. It is also great fun to help others learn to work with alpaca fleece and yarn. For dedicated knitters like me, alpacas are literally "sweaters on legs."

Our preserved farm which can never be developed is located on 10 acres of what was the last dairy farm in Cape May County, New Jersey. Located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, we are blest with a delightful climate where snows are rare and gentle ocean breezes keep us cool in summer. Cape May, which is a resort community of old Victorian homes, is also a key staging area for bird migration. Situated in the center of a rare area of natural dune forest, our farm is a magnet for birders and an oasis for coastal migrants. For us, it is our refuge from the stress of daily living.

Only a few hours away from those mega cities--New York, Philadelphia, Atlantic City and Washington, DC, --we encourage our city dwelling and suburban friends to visit our farm on their way to Cape May and observe the healthy "alpaca lifestyle" firsthand.
